Although everybody embraces all 16 needs, individuals prioritize them differently. Emeritus Professor Steven Reiss´s model holds that individual differences in prioritizations these human needs, as assessed by the RMP, motivates numerous personality traits and may predict a wide range of behavior in real-world contexts.

"I have spent 15 years accumulating evidence that psychologically significant human wants and values arise from 16 deeply rooted basic desires that are intrinsic to all of us. I have constructed a standardized assessment tool, called the Reiss Motivation Profile (RMP), and my collegues and I have projected the 16 motives into a wide range of professional endeavors, including self-discovery, business coaching, relationship counseling, world-class athletics, school psychology, and health psychology."
